Guest Post: AW Handbags

With September well underway comes a brand new fashion season and no self respecting fashionista can be seen without a handbag to finish of their perfect outfit. The major handbag brands have already launched there collections but with designer handbags comes the designer price tags. But like all high end fashion the designs eventually filter down to the high street and here is a collection of handbags from the high-street inspired by there designer counterparts.

First up is Hermès, the French company has been making high quality goods since it was founded back in 1837. This year’s collection sees the company’s classic handbags launched in neutral colours and its trademark crocodile leather and in large boxy shapes. However if you don’t have a few hundred thousands of pounds to spare then try one of these alternatives.

Topshop have this Patent Croc Double Handbag for £45.00 which comes in black with gold fittings and is made from wipe clean polyurethane, which means you don’t have to worry about spills and marks damaging your bag and is perfect for vegetarians and vegans.


If you want a large boxy shaped bag then try this Large Leather Doctor’s Bag also from Topshop at £95.00. Slightly pricier due to real leather being used in the construction this bag comes with both carry handles and a long strap making it easier to carry. However this bag is specialist clean requiring a bit more care than the first one.


Neutral colours go with any outfit but that doesn’t mean they have to be boring. This Beige stud quilted weekend bag from River Island for £55.00 adds a touch of glamour to any weekend away with its gold square studs. It also has a front zip pocket and two different strap lengths.


Chanel the famous French fashion house started by Coco Chanel back in 1909 now has its handbags designed by German fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld and this year the designer has world domination in his sights. The collection for this season takes its inspiration from globes and spheres. He’s also featuring the famous Chanel BOY bag with heavy chain detail which Lagerfeld has filtered down into his fashion collection for the brand. The famous Lego clutch also makes reappearance as well as flap bags in red, blue and black. If a BOY bag or a Lego clutch are out of your price range then how about one of these.

Accessorize have this chic Abbey Contrast Lock X Body for £25.00.  This cream number comes trimmed with monochrome black and a gold lock fastener and an across the body strap. This timeless bag will add a touch of class to any outfit while keeping your valuables secure when out and about town.


Accessorize also have this Textured Padlock Work Bag for £37.00 which is perfect for work or college as it combines a twist lock fastening for easy access with front and back compartments which means the end to rummaging through the bag to find things and padded shoulder straps making it comfortable to wear. The mixture textured panels make the bag look infinitely more expensive than it really is and means it should last you well into next season.


While this Green Perspex Embellished Box Clutch Bag from River Island may not be a Lego clutch but at only £35.00 it’s still funky and childlike enough to make you stand out from the crowd without making the bank manager weep. It features gemstone embellishments and a clip top fastening with a removable chain strap giving you two bags for the price of

The world renowned French fashion house Dior has decided to take a bold step with its bags this season channeling the fairy-tale heroine Cinderella with pop artists Andy Warhol with bags featuring sketches from the late artist. As well as embroidered clutch bags and purses all in metallic shades and neutral nudes.

For a splash of metallic try this Gold Mini Satchel from New Look for £12.99. This mini gold satchel takes the trend for satchels and redesigns them to make them look a little less after school. This one comes with a center lock and an adjustable strap.


For a hint of metallic on the dance floor try this Gold Mesh Box Clutch also from New Look for £15.99. The boxy shape is embellished with a sparkly gold mesh with a clasp fastening and a gold chain


British designer Stella McCartney is not to be out done by the more prestigious brands with her collection also featuring animal print, wood finish clutches and tartan this season.

New Look have this Black leopard Print Colour Block Winged Tote Bag for £15.99. This black and print colour block design features a winged design and metallic detailing. It also has two carry handles making it perfect for just popping on your shoulder.


While wood finished clutches have yet to make there mark on the high street Oasis have this bright red pill shaped Carrie Leopard Box Clutch bag for £50.00. The hard case is covered in a red textured leopard print which makes it stand out from other similar clutches. It also features a golden frame and clip fastening and has a chain strap meaning it can be carried in the hand or worn on the shoulder.


This Check Panel Bowler bag from Accessorize for £37.00 combines the Scottish pattern with the traditional bowler bag shape. It features a gold detailing and a detachable shoulder strap giving you two bags for the price of one.


While Alexander McQueen may have died three years ago, his own label still goes strong with its collection of handbags this season featuring snakeskin prints, bright colours and clutch bags with ornate detailing’s and cherub knuckledusters. As well as satchels, bowler bags and totes.

While it may not be a cherub knuckle duster this Dorothy Perkins Black Fish Box Clutch for £25.00 features an ornate fish resting on the clasp with a bejeweled eye and mouth. The black box also features golden detailing and a gold chain making it the perfect accessory for any sophisticated party this autumn/winter.


No article on handbags would be complete without a mention of Louis Vuitton the French fashion house synonymous with the humble handbag. This season Vuitton are going for fluffy handbags as well as oversized bags with short handles, totes and shoulder bags all in earthly tones and with shiny gold shoulder chains.

 River Island has embraced the idea of furry bags with this red Ombre Mongolian Fur Clutch bag for £90.00. The two tone fur has been dyed red with a darker red bordering on purple at the base. It comes with a chain strap and a clasp fastening.
